FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Cougars Mud Run
Do I need to be a mega super awesome runner to do this?
LOL, NO. There are plenty of other places to test your speed. This is all about a dirty, muddy, crazy day with friends and family. You can run, walk, crawl, or cartwheel if you wish!
Is race timed?
This is not a timed event. Runners tend to take their sweet time out there and we realise no one really cares about their speed. We suggest self-timing for anyone desiring a finish time.
It's about taking part, there are no losers, only winners. You!
Can I take photos or film at the event?
Snap away! This is a great event to get great visuals for your memories, to post to Insta, Facebook or Twitter and such. We welcome anyone to photograph or film at our event so please, come along, enjoy the event and take shots until your colourful heart is content. All we ask is that you use our hashtag #CougarsMudRun. If you are having too much fun to bother taking pictures, don’t stress, we hope to have a helicopter at this event taking photographs and video's and these images will be available online after the event, so make sure your entrant number is visible or wear a bright coloured hat.
Where can I leave my gear?
There are no locker facilities at the Start/Finish line so we suggest you leave your valuables at home, with spectators, in your motel or out of view in your car. Parking will be available nearby, however being a small town is limited.
Can spectators attend?
Yes – Food and drinks are available all day at the canteen near the finish line, so spectators are free to come down and watch the fun, however as the mud run goes through some forest trails and over some rough ground out in the country, places to watch are limited, but you are most welcome to bring along a folding chair and watch the fun at the start, and as they enter the sports ground to finish (this is where most obstacles will be situated).
Is there an age limit for younger runners?
No – entry is for all.
Am I able to receive a refund?
Unfortunately, we cannot issue refunds. You pay in cash at the start when you arrive and we fully expect you to enjoy yourselves. Please remember this is our first year, we are all volunteers and are trying to raise money for a good cause. We are doing our best to make this a fantastic event that will just keep getting better.
How far is it from start to finish?
We are a casual mob, so our best estimate is 3km. Maybe slightly more.
How many obstacles are there?
More than 5, less than 10,000. Feel free to count as you go.
Is the course wheel-chair friendly?
No – we are not banning wheelchairs, but advise that the less ambient entrant will need assistance in getting around the course and some obstacles will have to be avoided. That being said, we encourage everyone to join in and have a good time, and take a crack at the course. If you have any questions about entrants with disabilities please email
[email protected] to discuss.
Can I bring my scooter or bike?
Unfortunately, due to safety reasons, the answer is no. Sorry!
Can I run with my dog?
Sorry, NO DOGS or fury friends at the event. You’ll possibly smell like a wet dog as it is.
Am I going to get dirty?
Seriously? Yes, yes you’ll get dirty, if you take advantage of the muddy awesomeness we have prepared for you! You’ll get covered in mud / dust / dirt etc but it’s not like you’ll contract the plague. Take usual precautions with scrapes and scratches to be totally safe, but other than that enjoy it! We suggest you wear clothing and shoes that either you are happy to scrub, or happy to chuck away afterwards. And by ‘chuck away’ we mean take home with you, and throw out there.
What if an obstacle is too hard?
We aren’t the police, you know. The obstacles are easy enough but we also want you to enjoy your day, so if you need to go around one, then by all means do it! No biggie; move on.
Is water supplied?
Food and drinks are available to purchase at the canteen near the finish line, and will be manned and managed by our towns museum volunteers. However entrants are encouraged to BYO water if they need lubrication during the event. Please note, in June it can get as hot as hell, so take sun and heat protection precautions.
Do you have “cleaning stations” at the finish line?
The local fire dept will be on hand to hose you down.
Can I create a team?
Why not! Get a band of mates together, dress in questionable outfits, and call yourselves a team. To ensure you stay together, it’s advisable that you all enter and pay together to ensure you all get the same heat.
Is this race a Charity Event?
Yes! We are all volunteers, and proceeds will go towards building an outdoor basketball court at William Mason School.
Am I likely to get hurt?
This Mud Run is meant to be a bit challenging, not like a sparta/ironman event, but will cross dirt fields, forest tracks and uneven rough ground. The course may be covered with sticks, burrs and rocks, and possibly deer poo, because this event happens in the outdoors. It’ll also be summer and very probably hot as hell, so we advise you to use your common sense and be prepared. The course runs adjacent to the town's lagoons, however this is not part of the course – it is gross, and as such carries its own hazards. We also run ajacent to a railway line, although there won't be any train running that day Please do not tresspass onto railway property, it is dangerous and you may face a fine.
Is there first aid available?
If first aid is required along the track, locate the nearest volunteer and they will assist you. However if it's more than just a band aid or help back to your vehicle, you will be responsible for transport and treatment at any hospital you need to attend.
Smoking
All participants are encouraged not to smoke during the event and must abide by any firebans to eliminate the possibility of a wildfire.
